About Punjab RERA
The Government of India enacted the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Certain provisions came into force on May 1, 2016, while the remaining provisions became effective from May 1, 2017. Under the Act, every State is required to establish a Real Estate Regulatory Authority to implement and oversee its provisions.
The Government of Punjab notified the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Rules, 2017 on June 8, 2017. Subsequently, the Real Estate Regulatory Authority, Punjab (RERA Punjab) was established on August 10, 2017, with the appointment of the Chairperson and two full-time Members.
Objectives of RERA Punjab
- Regulation and promotion of the real estate sector.
- Encouraging a healthy, transparent, efficient, and competitive real estate market.
- Ensuring transparent and efficient sale of plots, apartments, and other real estate properties.
- Protecting the interests of consumers in the real estate sector.
- Providing a speedy dispute resolution mechanism.
- Maintaining a public portal containing records of registered real estate projects and agents.
- Offering online facilities for project registration, agent registration, and complaint filing.
